Next time maybe we ought to pick the best person in the primary, so we can not only vote ABB, but for the best person.

Clinton has a lot of name recognition money, but she also has issues. It'll be interesting to see how that plays out.

Right now Feingold is popular, as is Gore, among Big L Liberals. I wonder if that will hold up in the primaries in more conservative states like Iowa and New Hampshire.

It's a long way until January 2007, when they'll begin in a more earnest time-consuming way to campaign. In that time, and perhaps even somewhat after that, there could be some other candidates who will appear. In politics a day or two can be a very long time. Remember, it was just a couple of days ago we all thought Veep Cheney was a peechy keen kinda guy. My only fear about Warner is that he'll be too conservative for me, so I prefer Feingold.

But then again, after all these years of Bush, I'll gladly take any Democrat. Moreover, it's my hope that despite all the rage on the left, Democrats will unite around whoever gets the nomination, because this country can't survive more Republican leadership. Nonetheless, I still think we had better be careful of who we select in the primaries, and I think both Feingold and Warner are good options.

Nothing, nothing would make me happier than a Fein...

Nothing, nothing would make me happier than a Feingold candidacy. He and I don't always agree but he's a good, hard-working, almost unbelievably principled man...

...And I was just about to write "but the party will never get behind such an independent-thinking maverick, just like they wouldn't get behind Howard Dean," until I suddenly remembered that it's Dean who's running the party. Which gives Feingold a real shot.

But Warner is exactly what I think the Democrats want. Proven ability to attract Republicans, a proven record as an executive, and Edwards-ian charisma. I hereby mark him as the favorite.

Michael J.
